The Other End of the 1 Metro Line

As I mentioned in the previous post the Vincennes Castle is at the end of the 1 metro line.  La Defense and the Grand Arch are at the other end and it couldn't be more different. We went to this area under recommendation from Steven and Roger - thanks guys.  As we came out of the metro it felt like we had entered a sci-fi movie.

The Grand Arch

We think this area was the Parisian version of Times Square. It was called "Le Quatre Temps".

The area is named for this statue, "La Dèfense Da Paris", erected in 1883 to commemorate the soldiers who defended Paris in the Franco-Prussian War.

This looks like pick up sticks to us.
The below photos were taken from the same spot turning 180 degrees.  The 2 arches are perfectly lined up.  The Arc de Triomphe would fit inside The Grand Arch.

PS - This is the first day we haven't gone into a church. We may be going to hell.  We'll probably pass through these gates by Rodin.
