Schronburnn Palace

Schronbunn Palace is comprised of 1441 rooms. We were able to visit 40 of the rooms. No photos are allowed in the Palace.
We enjoyed the surrounding gardens.
I wish you could smell these roses. It was intoxicating.
Most of the plantings had just been changed to the summer plantings and were sparse. The grounds were being set up for the Summer Night Concert which took place the day after our visit. It was disappointing to not be able to see the gardens in full view but how often do you see the set up for a concert of this scale. We did enjoy the Prince's Gardens.

The Gloriette

I'm sorry but this has to be one of the ugliest fountains I have ever seen.

The Prince's Garden. Now this is what I'm talking about.

Nashmarkt

Vienna’s Naschmarkt. It is named the “city’s stomach” by locals. The Naschmarkt has existed since the 18th century and is Vienna’s largest inner city market. We were delighted to discover it was just around the corner from our apartment. I love a good food market.

Vienna Day 1

After over 19 hours of traveling we made it to Vienna. I don't sleep we'll on planes so I was a mess. I had to take a nap.

This is how I felt.

As luck would have it the apartment we rented is around the corner from a huge out door food market area with many restaurants. We had a traditional schnitzel dinner then ventured out to see the town following a Rick Steve's city walk route.

Kariskirche (St Charles Church)

We walked to St Stephens Cathedral which was open. A mass was being held but people could till come in. We timed it just right. The outside walls are huge stained glass windows from the 1950s and were reflecting color all through the interior. I love this effect.

Schonbrunn Palace is next on the agenda. We are hoping it will be a nice day so we can enjoy the gardens. The owner of the apartment said this has been the coldest May on record.

Using an iPad to blog

Getting started using the iPad for blogging.

I hope to be able to blog on our upcoming European River Cruise. I will be taking the iPad rather than the Mac. I am also trying out a new application for creating the blog post.

Here goes

For our anniversary in April we took a quick over night trip to Bodega Bay. It was a beautiful but very windy 2 days.

The poppies were in bloom.

Looking down the cliff to the water.

Hubby walked further than I did.

Someone walked down this little path to build this.

The next morning we braved the wind for a walk on the beach. See the spray coming off the wave.

Anniversary kiss - 32 years and counting

This is the end of my test. Hopefully my next post will be from Vienna, Austria

I'm Back

I haven't posted anything since we returned from Paris.  Life seemed to change on a dime.  In January 2011 my father became ill and we lost him on Feb 28th.  I stayed with Mom until the middle of April.
Once I returned to work it was not the same for me.  I reduced down to 4 days a week hoping that would help relive some stress.  I lasted another 15 months before retiring.  Now I am foot loose and fancy free!

The first real vacation I have taken since retiring was to San Felipe to visit our friends Roy and Sylvia at their winter home.  Our friends Roger and Dorothy joined us from Bellingham Washington.  We all had a fantastic week hiking, shelling, eating, drinking, playing Mexican Train dominos, and catching up.
